Happy Monday Reader! Some of my recent emails have been a bit "vaguebook-y". They've had more pointed themes & messages, without explaining the situation behind them. So here's the backstory: A few weeks ago my long term, inner circle of close friends and family blew up. Conversations were had about people who were not present, assumptions were made, and hurtful things were texted. Dirty laundry was aired publicly in the group and I personally was in the crosshairs of defamation attacks. And it was a no win situation. It felt like my world was ending for a couple weeks there. Since then, I've heard from a few other people who have also recently had their lives turned upside down out of the blue. It feels like life/the universe/god/whatever you believe is out to get us! But the power of coaching gives us the strength and knowledge to reframe even the shittiest situations. (Eventually! You gotta feel those feelings first.) Affirmations are one of coaching the tools that help us reframe awful experiences. "I am equipped to handle any challenge the universe sends my way." (Remember to make this affirmation your own by changing "the universe" to whatever higher power you believe in!) You are strong and you are resilient no matter what terrible situation you're in right now. Even when it feels like your world is ending. When you struggle to get out of bed, to keep going when effort feels futile, remember: Nothing and no one can take away your mind. No one can take away your memories and lived experience. No one can take away the skills you've learned & the knowledge you've gained. No one can take away what you know to be true about yourself. Diamonds are formed under pressure...What doesn't kill you makes you stronger....We have so many sayings to reframe the hard-as-hell times. So to those out there at rock bottom, here's another way to tap into your strength & resilience! Repeat 21x/day this week: "I am equipped to handle any challenge the universe sends my way." ❤️ P.S. Please don't worry about me! I've met with my therapist multiple times, talked to friends, and processed on my own, so I am feeling a lot better about the situation. I am grateful to my support network I could lean on, because being open and vulnerable isn't easy for me. I was ready to write this email today because I've been able to reframe this experience and feel stronger for having lived through it. As always, affirmations work best when you truly believe them. They need to resonate with you and feel achievable. So feel free to modify any I suggest, or develop entirely new ones! Say them as long as you want. I'm sharing a new affirmation each week, but that doesn't mean you have to switch it up each week unless it feels right. You can add new ones as often as you want and have as many as you want. You can say a different affirmation every day, or at different times of the day. You choose! I'd love to hear the impact it has! (But if you decide affirmations are not for you, click here to be removed from this weekly email.) I hope this affirmation sets you up for a kick ass week and I'll see you next Monday for a new one to try! Ready to make time for great things in 2024? And I was all coy, not telling you my goal because I thought it might make it easier to not complete it?...
Happy Monday Reader! Last week's affirmation about rest ended up being more applicable than I expected when I developed a sinus infection! There's nothing like illness or an emergency to force us to slow down and prioritize rest. Have you ever noticed that being sick is a socially acceptable reason to cancel plans? That it's a "legitimate" reason? When I have to tell someone no or cancel a plan, I usually feel the need to give a reason. It's something I've been working on as a "recovering...
Happy Labor Day Reader! Last week we looked at the water we're swimming in here in the U.S.--the water that makes constant productivity feel normal or even virtuous. Although I've been aware of this cultural pressure for many years, I still succumb to it regularly! As a business owner it's easy to put pressure on myself to work more, work harder, work longer to get my business to succeed. It's hard for me to slow down and rest when there is still so much to do! A webinar I could be watching....
