Hello Reader, Hopefully you had a chance to process any big emotions you had after the election, and to make new plans if needed. (Although it was a full moon last week, so YMMV!) Election results can be a visible and visceral reminder of how little control we have, especially at a national or global level. We do our best by casting our own vote, by campaigning ahead of time, promoting or supporting the candidates and causes we believe in, and possibly attempting to change hearts and minds around us...but in the end we can't control the outcome. So if election results--or anything else in your life!--has you feeling despair or helplessness, you definitely need today's affirmation! "I focus on what I can control & release the rest." Neither you nor I were responsible for the election results. We aren't responsible for global warming, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, or systemic inequality. But these are the types of things that can keep us up at night or give us anxiety attacks. Because they certainly exist, they are certainly harmful, and there is a lot of messaging telling us we are responsible for fixing them. But trying to fix everything and everyone is a recipe for burnout. And working yourself into the ground isn't the answer. Instead, we must pick and choose our battles. And it's not cowardly, it's smart to be choosy! Being discerning about how we use our limited time, energy, and attention matters. Keeping us overwhelmed is one way toxic systems keep us powerless, and you and me? We're onto that trick. We aren't going to be distracted. We're going to stay laser focused this week by repeating 21x/day: "I focus on what I can control & release the rest." |
Time is the single most valuable thing we have. I help busy business owners get out of overwhelm to work fewer hours in their business (without sacrificing income!) so they can get back to enjoying their business and their life again.
Happy Monday Reader! Well it only took about 48 hours to see the error of last week's affirmation. The presidential election news was depressing, demoralizing, scary, and infuriating. I was not really surprised, but I was disappointed. I’m feeling weird about these election results because I remember that my life didn’t really change the first time we elected The Orange Menace. And it probably won’t this time either. I have an immense amount of privilege as a college educated, middle class...
Happy November Reader! How are you recovering after Daylight Savings Time ended over the weekend? Are you impatient to get over this adjustment and move on to the easier part? Impatience is one of my worst faults, so I get it if you’re ready to put a struggle in the rearview mirror. I have a really hard time appreciating the moment. I know intellectually I have a lot to be grateful for, and a lot of privilege. Yet I am still impatient to get to an imagined future. But the truth? Is that there...
Happy Monday Reader! How familiar are you with "imposter syndrome"? Maybe you have heard the term. Maybe you understand what it means & entails....or perhaps you've even experienced it yourself. One of my favorite teams on the internet is Vital Voice Training. This duo sends amazing weekly emails about public speaking, using our voice, and unapologetically taking up space. If you've ever experienced imposter syndrome, you know how revolutionary those things can be! Their email from last week...
