Monday Motivation - I have the power, the determination, and the ability to achieve my biggest goals.

Happy Monday Reader!

I'm on vacation this week, spending time in a house right on Lake Michigan. My plan for the week was to focus on resting, and thinking about the long term shape of my coaching business.

I threw an extra wrench in the works at the end of last week because I also decided to start a 100 day goal!

I'm not sure yet if that was genius or foolish--usually I would put something like that off until after my vacation.

But starting that process is what inspired today's affirmation:

"I have the power, the determination, and the ability to achieve my biggest goals."

A while back I purchased this journal on the recommendation of an email newsletter I've been reading for a while now:

I've never been good at journaling--I've never stuck with it, and I usually don't find it particularly restorative to do. But the email writer seemed to have the same struggles with journaling I do, and said this is the only thing that has worked. So why not try it, right? It was less than $20 to give it a chance.

First I offered it to my husband, but while he seemed interested, he didn't start using it. So I took it back and decided to try it myself!

While pondering my goal, I realized the one I had initially settled on was playing too small. So I increased my goal--made it bigger, more audacious. Something that will be more challenging, but definitely still achievable, to accomplish in 100 days.

Creating an affirmation to help me stick to this process, to not talk myself out of this audacious goal, was one of my very first "micro goals" on Day 1.

And I'm sharing it here with you today, in hopes it will inspire you to set a new, big, audacious goal for the rest of the year. (We're about halfway through, after all! YIKES.)

By this time of the year, the vast majority of folks have completely forgotten about New Year's goals or resolutions. Or like me, their idea of what's possible has changed and so has the goal.

Halfway through the year is a great time to remind ourselves of our goals. To renew our commitment to them...or to modify them to fit our updated circumstances.

I'll keep you posted on how this goal progresses, and my thoughts on the usefulness of this journal! And you can always hit reply to ask about it if I don't mention it for a while. 😉 Keep me accountable!

Whether you're recommitting to an existing goal or setting a new one like I am, let's cement our faith in ourselves to achieve them by repeating 21x every day:

"I have the power, the determination, and the ability to achieve my biggest goals."

❤️

(P.S. Notice I didn't ever tell you what the goal is?? That's on purpose! There's some research that indicates that telling people your goal makes you less likely to achieve it.)

As always, affirmations work best when you truly believe them. They need to resonate with you and feel achievable. So feel free to modify any I suggest, or develop entirely new ones!

Say them as long as you want. I'm sharing a new affirmation each week, but that doesn't mean you have to switch it up each week unless it feels right. You can add new ones as often as you want and have as many as you want. You can say a different affirmation every day, or at different times of the day. You choose!

I'd love to hear the impact it has! (But if you decide affirmations are not for you, click here to be removed from this weekly email.)

I hope this affirmation sets you up for a kick ass week and I'll see you next Monday for a new one to try!

Ready to make time for great things in 2024? I have 1-1 coaching spots available to teach you how to put your limited time, energy, & attention to the work that moves the needle in just 1 hour a week. Hit reply or pick a time on my calendar here to learn more.

Happy Labor Day Reader! Last week we looked at the water we're swimming in here in the U.S.--the water that makes constant productivity feel normal or even virtuous. Although I've been aware of this cultural pressure for many years, I still succumb to it regularly! As a business owner it's easy to put pressure on myself to work more, work harder, work longer to get my business to succeed. It's hard for me to slow down and rest when there is still so much to do! A webinar I could be watching....

Happy Monday Reader! How familiar are you with the "Protestant work ethic"? Here's a refresher that AI provided during my Google search: The Protestant work ethic is a sociological, economic, and historical concept that emphasizes the importance of hard work, frugality, and productivity in one's job. It's also known as the Calvinist or Puritan work ethic. The term refers to the religious significance that some Protestant groups believe is attached to working hard and trying to succeed. I...

Happy Monday Reader! How are things going for you? For me? I was on the struggle bus last week! Most of my client contracts are ending this month, and my pipeline for possible new clients is pretty empty. That's a terrifying place for a business owner to be! This really got into my head, and kicked up a lot of doubt and limiting beliefs. Ah, those old familiar frenemies! Due to my empty pipeline, I felt like no one was interested in my business or my coaching services. Which made it seem like...
