Monday Motivation - I know what I want & I am taking steps to get it.

Happy Monday Reader!

We're revisiting an oldie but a goodie this week, because I have some big news: last week I started a new part time job!

Rest assured, I am not closing my coaching business. I have existing contracts I am committed to and I really enjoy the work. It's all the other stuff that started to wear me down.

I woke up one morning at the end of the summer and wondered when I would look forward to starting my day & working in my business. And then I realized with a bit of shock that my business as it currently exists was no longer getting me closer to my overall goal, which is financial independence. (FIRE specifically.)

"I know what I want & I am taking steps to get it."

I am passionate about helping people. I love talking to people about their schedule issues & to-do list problems. I get a thrill when a presentation or coaching call makes someone see their life or their options in a totally new way.

But those things only happened a few hours a month. And the stress of not being profitable in my business, where I put the bulk of my time, energy, and attention for about 35 hours a week for 22 months, was making me resentful.

And the thought of going back to work brought a sense of relief, instead of regret. It was the right decision.

So in a few short weeks, I applied for a couple part time jobs, and was recently hired to be the afternoon admin assistant at the North Kansas City Parks & Rec department!

This new direction is great in a lot of ways. The parks & rec building is super close to my house so I can walk or bike to work. I still have mornings free to do good work in my business & keep growing it slowly on the side. I get to see what goes on behind the scenes in my city. And I earn PTO!! (I haven't had PTO in a decade!)

Instead of beating myself up for "failing" at entrepreneurship, I am focusing on how this change of plans will actually set me up for more success. Having a reliable amount of monthly income will take pressure off my business. I'm tired of feeling like I'm forcing it, and doing tons of marketing tasks that don't feel good or natural in the hopes someone, anyone, will hire me.

Despite all this news, I don't think you'll personally see much (if any) of a difference! I'll still be in your inbox once a week sharing news and affirmations. I'll continue to keep you posted on upcoming events.

And I'm still open to taking more clients or speaking gigs! They just have to be in the mornings now. 😉

This week we are celebrating that when we know what we really, truly want, we can take steps to get it. Even when those steps look different than what we expected a month or even a year ago. We repeat 21x/day:

"I know what I want & I am taking steps to get it."

P.S. Not sure what your ultimate goal is? Let's chat for 30 min to figure it out together!

As always, affirmations work best when you truly believe them. They need to resonate with you and feel achievable. So feel free to modify any I suggest, or develop entirely new ones!

Say them as long as you want. I'm sharing a new affirmation each week, but that doesn't mean you have to switch it up each week unless it feels right. You can add new ones as often as you want and have as many as you want. You can say a different affirmation every day, or at different times of the day. You choose!

I'd love to hear the impact it has! (But if you decide affirmations are not for you, click here to be removed from this weekly email.)

I hope this affirmation sets you up for a kick ass week and I'll see you next Monday for a new one to try!

I always have time for you. ❤️

Happy Monday Reader! What does your body need right now? We're officially in the fall season in the northern hemisphere. The days are getting shorter. The temps are cooling down. (In the mornings, at least! It still hit high 80s over the weekend here in KC.) With all these changes, do you need to pay a bit more attention to what your body or mind is craving right now? "It is safe to listen to my body." When I get busy, it's easy to stop listening. The things that recharge me best--art,...

Happy Monday Reader! Ever heard of the poem "Desiderata"? That's actually where our affirmation this week comes from! The full line I'm stealing from is: And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should But that felt like a bit too much of a mouthful to say 21 times daily, so I shortened it to the most important bit. "The universe is unfolding as it should." "Desiderata" became an important part of my life when I was in high school. You may have heard me...

Happy Monday Reader! Ever have those days that manage to be the worst day of your month yet also amazing at the same time? Honestly, I'm not sure I've ever experienced emotional whiplash as much as I did last week on Thursday, when I attended the Mid-Continent Public Library's Self-Care Summit. The first emotional extreme came as I was leaving my neighborhood & I sideswiped a neighbor's parked car. Being the cause of an easily preventable accident is not a positive way to start a day! It...
